no longer the "in" thing

as i sit here and re-do my recent calc III hwks in preparation for my final on monday, i realize that it's no longer "my" generation anymore. i'm no longer the "new" news. those days when i was 9 and had under-developed breasts, running around in my mommy's bra on outside of my buttoned up floral shirt was considered the cutest thing that my grandpa, gramma, aunt, and uncles had ever seen. my auntie or uncle used to carry me on their back after i walked my tiny feet out of my kindergarten class. they would have my left hand in their left hand, and in their right hand, they held onto my sticky pink barbie lunchbox. i remember when my grampa on my dad's side would be sitting by the porch next to the tree at majestic way elementary school every sunny weekday afternoon. he was waiting for his little granddaugther to buy herself a little rootbeerfloat ice cream bar so together, he and her would march on home to greet grandma and her homemade stinky fish in an old claypot. when i graduated from my elementary school, i was one of the four students who had a little goodbye speech on graduation day. i remember hearing them huddling together with binoculars to look for the little tan girl in a white bridal lookalike dress who was seated all the way in the back row due to faults of her last name. when it was my turn to approach the stand, i heard applauds before i even had a chance to read my little speech. heh. now, i'm the old college girl with the frizzy hair. my uncles are now racing each other to pop out little cousins for me to play with. they no longer ask how i'm doing, instead now i'm the one with questions. "so, will your next baby be a girl?" this is the new generation. i'm ready to kiss the new fatty cheeks, smooth pure hands, and fluffy black hair. i'll be the one who gives them piggy-back rides and buys them chocolate ice cream bars and cuts big pieces of beef into tiny chewable pea-size squares.
